Youth group predicts 52% win for Kennedy Agyapong, calls for free and fair NPP primaries

A pro-Kennedy Agyapong youth group, Ken for the Masses, says it expects the former Assin Central MP to secure more than half of the votes in the New Patriotic Party’s presidential primaries, while urging party leadership to ensure a credible and peaceful process.

Speaking on the Asaase Breakfast Show on Friday (30 January), the group’s convener, Philip Burberry Quaye, projected that Agyapong could win between 52% and 53% of the vote.

“If what we are expecting happens, Ken is going to win by about 52 to 53 percent — maybe even higher,” he said.

Quaye said feedback from campaign rounds in the Western, Bono and Ashanti regions shows strong grassroots support for Agyapong, whom he described as a candidate who “resonates well with ordinary Ghanaians”.

He argued that many party supporters believe Agyapong gives the NPP its best chance of recapturing power in 2028.

“The primary aim of every political party is to win power,” he said. “People believe Ken is the one who can connect with voters and win the general election.”

He also addressed concerns about internal party unity, insisting Agyapong would unite the NPP if elected, pointing to his role campaigning for the party after losing previous primaries.

“Unity is not negotiable,” Quaye said. “Ken has always supported the party even when he lost.”

Beyond the outcome, the group’s key demand, he noted, is a transparent and peaceful election.

“All the young party supporters want is a credible election — free and fair. No chaos,” he said. “If that happens, everybody will rally behind whoever wins.”

The NPP is set to elect its presidential candidate on Saturday in what is expected to be a closely contested race.
