The Prime Minister of Jamaica, Dr Andrew Michael Holness, has expressed gratitude to Ghana for its assistance following Hurricane Melissa, describing the support as a gesture that will always be treasured.
During a meeting with Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Member of Parliament, the Jamaican Prime Minister conveyed his appreciation to President John Dramani Mahama through Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs.
In the discussions, both leaders explored ways to strengthen ties between the two countries. Key areas included labour mobility from Ghana to Jamaica, opportunities for Ghanaian businesses, and the initiation of a Ghana-Jamaica Defence Cooperation Agreement.
Prime Minister Holness highlighted Jamaica’s plans for an infrastructural revamp and expressed interest in collaborating with Ghanaian companies on these projects.
The Jamaican leader also pledged his full support for President Mahama’s United Nations resolution aimed at declaring the transatlantic slave trade as the greatest crime against humanity and calling for reparations for its victims.
The meeting underscores a growing partnership between Ghana and Jamaica, built on solidarity, trade, and shared historical interests, while opening avenues for closer diplomatic, economic, and defence cooperation.
