A fire broke out at Anloga Market near Afful Nkwanta in the Kumasi metropolis on Monday night (26 January), destroying shops, Asaase News has learned.
The blaze started around 10pm, and came barely 24 hours after another incident razed a cluster of mechanics’ workshops at Sofoline, also in Kumasi, prompting concern over the frequency of market fires in the city.
Personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service were deployed to the scene and were working to bring the flames under control.
The fire began in a section of the Anloga Market occupied by a footwear factory where flammable materials are commonly stored, myjoyonline.com reported.
No casualties were immediately reported, and the cause of the fire has not yet been established officially.
