Prince Appiah Dankwa, the immediate past TESCON President at the University of Ghana, has urged a revitalization of TESCON as the intellectual core of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), emphasising that the organization should be more than just a mobilisation engine during campaigns.
Speaking on the Asaase Breakfast Show on Monday (26 January), Prince noted that the party had, over the years, shifted TESCON from its original vision to primarily serving campaign purposes.
“The main reason why TESCON was established seems to have been overshadowed by campaign needs. TESCON should give opportunities to young people and function as the intellectual wing of the party,” Prince said.
He added that the recent controversies surrounding TESCON delegates’ voting rights in the upcoming party primaries highlighted the importance of ensuring youth inclusion in decision-making processes.
“TESCON deserves a voice in party decisions, not just during campaigns,” he asserted.
Prince also acknowledged the efforts of the NPP National Youth Organiser, Salam Mustapha, who has personally supported TESCON activities.
However, he cautioned against alignment to specific candidates by national executives, noting that it could undermine the credibility and unity of TESCON and the youth wing.
