A survey of New Patriotic Party (NPP) delegates across most of constituencies shows former vice president Mahamudu Bawumia leading the race to become the party’s next flagbearer, researcher Prof. Smart Sarpong has said.
Sarpong, speaking on The Forum aired on Asaase Radio on Saturday (24 January) said he personally funded and conducted the survey in 216 of the country’s 276 constituencies, explaining that he stopped after reaching what he described as “saturation,” where additional data was unlikely to significantly change the trend.

“By the time I reached saturation, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia was leading, followed by Ken Agyapong, then Bryan Acheampong, then Osei Yaw Adutwum and Ing. Kwabena Agyepong,” Sarpong said during an appearance on The Forum.
He said the survey assessed delegates’ preferences using three indicators — most suitable candidate, most popular candidate, and most unifying candidate.
On suitability, Bawumia scored 57.2%, ahead of Ken Agyapong on 31.9% and Bryan Acheampong on 7.5%. On popularity, Bawumia again led with 59.0%, followed by Agyapong on 31.5% and Acheampong on 6.2%.
On unity, Bawumia recorded 40.2%, while Agyapong had 24.0% and Acheampong 16.8%.
Undecided respondents across the categories remained below 2%, Sarpong said.
“The conclusion from all three indicators is that the delegates are likely to choose Dr Bawumia,” he said.
