NaCCA saga: investigation, not blame, should guide teacher manual resolution – Osei Bonsu

Lawyer Oxford Osei Bonsu has called for a thorough investigation into the source of errors in the controversial teacher manual, saying resolving the issue requires understanding its origins.

Speaking on Asaase Radio’s The Forum programme on Saturday (17 January), Bonsu emphasised that assigning blame without investigating the root cause will not solve the problem.

“If we accept responsibility and find a way of actually investigating where the problem came from, we can address it. If you don’t investigate the source of the problem, you can’t solve the problem,” he said.

He noted that the previous government is no longer in power and cannot take responsibility, underlining that the current authorities must focus on addressing the right issues.

Bonsu also cautioned against the inclusion of terms like “sexual orientation” in the debate, saying such language complicates discussions and escalates tensions.

“When sexual orientation is mentioned, you worsen the issue. It takes the debate to another level,” he said.

His remarks contribute to the ongoing public discourse in Ghana surrounding the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA) teacher manual, which has drawn criticism for including content related to LGBTQ issues and sparked calls for accountability among government officials.
