Sinto Nuhu Mustapha, a director at the Information Service, says he was harassed and physically assaulted by immigration officers after they questioned his nationality based on his appearance.
According to Mustapha, the officers seized his money and slapped him, claiming he did not “look Ghanaian” but rather resembled a Fulani.
The incident reportedly occurred despite Mustapha presenting official identification, including his ECOWAS card and National Identification Card, both of which clearly indicate his Ghanaian citizenship.
The alleged assault has raised concerns over ethnic profiling and abuse of authority by immigration personnel. Human rights advocates are calling for an investigation into the matter and accountability for those involved.
The Ghana Immigration Service has not yet stated the incident.
