Spokesperson for Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum’s campaign, Yaw Opoku Mensah, has outlined an ambitious internal party welfare and accountability framework aimed at insulating New Patriotic Party (NPP) members from patronage politics and neglect.
Speaking on the Asaase Breakfast Show on Tuesday (13 January), Opoku Mensah said Dr Adichum’s vision includes a digital system that allows party members to track requests made to government and receive feedback within 48 hours.
Under the proposal, each constituency would have a dedicated welfare officer, alongside a liaison officer positioned at the presidency to ensure that concerns from party members are escalated directly to the president and relevant sector agencies.
“Every request from a party member will be seen at the highest level, and within 48 hours, a response must be given—whether the request can be met or not,” he said.
Opoku Mensah added that monthly accountability reports on government appointees would be made available to party structures, stressing that the party must be empowered to correct a government it helped bring to power.
“The party births the government. If the government goes wayward, it is the party that must correct the seed it planted,” he said.
He further disclosed plans to introduce what he described as a “patriotic insurance” scheme to support party activists who suffer harm or hardship while working for the party.
According to him, these measures are intended to free delegates and grassroots members from reliance on “big men or big women” and allow them to contribute meaningfully to the party without fear or dependency.
