The United States has, for the first time, backed a broad coalition of Ukraine’s allies in pledging to provide security guarantees to Kyiv, including binding commitments to support the country if it is attacked by Russia again.
The pledge followed a “coalition of the willing” summit held in Paris, where leaders of Ukraine’s allies agreed on plans that could include the deployment of troops in Ukraine in the event of a ceasefire.
According to leaders at the meeting, the proposed security guarantees are aimed at deterring future Russian aggression and strengthening Ukraine’s long-term defence. The discussions marked a significant step in international coordination, as allies moved beyond military aid toward formal assurances of protection.
Details of the troop deployment and the legal framework for the guarantees were not immediately disclosed. Officials said further consultations would be held to determine the scope, timing, and conditions under which the measures would take effect.
The summit comes as fighting continues in Ukraine and diplomatic efforts intensify to find a path toward ending the conflict while ensuring lasting security for the country.
