The Chamber of Petroleum Consumers (COPEC) on Tuesday urged commercial transport operators, including ride-hailing platforms such as Uber, Bolt and Yango, to review and reduce fares following recent declines in fuel prices at the pump.
COPEC said some oil marketing companies have lowered prices within the current pricing window, reflecting softer international refined fuel prices, relative stability in the cedi and increased competition in Ghana’s deregulated downstream petroleum market.
“Consumers must not be denied the benefit of price reductions when international and local market conditions become favourable,” COPEC Executive Secretary Duncan Amoah said in a statement.
According to COPEC’s year-on-year assessment, petrol and diesel prices are currently between 3 and 4 cedis per litre lower than in January 2025, translating into significant savings for consumers.
The consumer group also called on oil marketing companies that are yet to adjust prices to do so promptly to ensure pump prices align with prevailing market conditions.
Transport fares were last reduced by 15% in May 2025 after negotiations between transport unions and the Ministry of Transport, following an appreciation of the cedi and falling fuel prices.
COPEC data shows petrol is selling at 10.56 cedis per litre at Star Oil, 10.99 cedis at GOIL and 11.68 cedis at TotalEnergies.
Diesel prices range from 11.56 cedis at Star Oil to 12.38 cedis at TotalEnergies, while premium petrol (RON 95) sells between 12.96 cedis and about 13.98 cedis per litre across major outlets.
COPEC said fair and responsive fuel pricing was critical to easing financial pressure on households, transport operators and businesses, and urged transport operators to reflect current fuel cost reductions in their fares.
