The The Apostolic Church-Ghana (TAC-GH) has banned the practice of kissing the bride during wedding ceremonies, describing it as inconsistent with the church’s cultural and spiritual values.
The directive was approved by the Council of Apostles and Prophets (CAP) and adopted by delegates at the church’s 6th General Council Meeting held at the TAC Conference Centre in Fafraha, Accra.
Announcing the decision, President Ami-Narh said the move was aimed at curbing what the church describes as excesses and inappropriate practices that have become associated with some modern wedding ceremonies.
According to an official statement, the council resolved to “expunge the ‘you may kiss the bride’ aspect from our wedding ceremonies owing to its inappropriateness within our cultural setting.”
The church noted that while the practice may be acceptable in some Western traditions, it does not align with the values upheld by TAC-GH.
Beyond the ban, the council also cautioned members against engaging in what it described as “awkward and immoral” pre-wedding photoshoots, which it said are increasingly influenced by social media trends.
President Ami-Narh stressed that the sanctity and honour of marriage must be preserved, warning against behaviours that could undermine Christian values even before couples exchange vows.
He added that upholding discipline and modesty before marriage is essential to honouring God and maintaining the spiritual integrity of the institution.
The announcement was met with applause from delegates, many of whom endorsed the decision as a necessary step to guide young people and protect them from what the church views as negative external influences.
