The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has refuted claims that the government approved travel for staff of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) to provide licensing services abroad.
The clarification follows remarks by DVLA Chief Executive Julius Neequaye Kotey at a ceremony in Kumasi, where he said selected DVLA staff would travel to the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, and Germany to serve Ghanaians living overseas.
“We have gotten approval from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for them to travel and do this for Ghanaians staying abroad,” Kotey was quoted as saying.
In a statement issued on Thursday (26 February), the Foreign Affairs Ministry said it had “neither issued any directive to diplomatic missions abroad nor granted approval to any entity for such an arrangement” and confirmed that it was unaware of any new government policy to that effect.
The ministry added that there had been no formal engagement or financial commitment to support the initiative.
The DVLA subsequently clarified that there were no plans to post its domestic staff to embassies abroad, describing reports suggesting otherwise as inaccurate.
The ministry reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and financial prudence in public service.
