The Africa Prosperity Network (APN) will launch a continent-wide campaign to push African leaders to implement free movement and trade commitments under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), its founder Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko has announced.
Speaking ahead of the 2026 Africa Prosperity Dialogue in Accra, Otchere-Darko said the initiative — dubbed the “Make Africa Borderless Now” movement — aims to gather 10 million signatures within 12 months to pressure governments to act on existing agreements.
“These are not new demands. These are things our leaders have already signed up to but have not implemented,” he said.
He argued that fragmented national markets are holding back job creation and entrepreneurship across the continent.
“We cannot get to where we want to get to if we go fragmented with the economies that we have,” he said, stressing that Africa’s 1.5 billion people should function as a single market similar to India or China.
This year’s Africa Prosperity Dialogue, scheduled for February 4–6 at the Accra International Conference Centre, is expected to draw more than 6,000 participants from over 100 countries, including business leaders, policymakers and investors.
Otchere-Darko said the focus will be on small and medium enterprises, women and youth, who account for the majority of employment and business activity in Africa.
“If a single market is to work, it must be inclusive,” he said.
He added that beyond policy advocacy, the event generates tangible economic benefits for Ghana through tourism, hospitality and conference spending, estimating that visitors inject more than $10 million into the local economy during the three-day programme.
“The private sector must own and drive integration,” he said. “If we don’t build the Africa we want ourselves, nobody will do it for us.”
