New polling ahead of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential primary shows strong delegate support consolidating around candidate Kennedy Kennedy, according to a researcher who conducted the survey.
Evans Duah, a chartered accountant and financial economist, told The Forum on Saturday (31 January) that his team’s research examined delegate behaviour from past primaries and general elections to understand decision-making patterns.
“Delegates are assessing who can win power for the party. Once they are convinced, they stick with that candidate,” he said.
Duah’s survey, which included multiple waves of structured phone interviews with delegates across Ghana, indicated that Kennedy had the highest net gain of support, particularly in Greater Accra, Central, and Eastern regions.
While other candidates, including Mahamudu Bawumia and Bryan Acheampong, maintain strongholds in the Northern belts, Kennedy’s message, personality, and campaign organisation resonated broadly.
“The data shows a steady upward trajectory for Kennedy. Delegates feel his message on job creation and industrialisation is practical, and his leadership style inspires confidence,” Duah said.
The research highlights that delegate elections focus on political stakeholders rather than the general public, making strategic alliances and regional bases critical in determining the outcome of Saturday’s vote.
